DM5220 | 2D MEMS Evaluation Kit

10kHz MEMS EVALUATION KIT

MARADIN 2D MEMS BASED LASER PROJECTION EVALUATION KIT FOR AUTOMOTIVE

The DM005220 is the industry’s first MEMS-based laser projection evaluation kit, supporting an all-in-one digital controller for laser scanner and video.  The laser projection evaluation kit utilizes an automotive designed MAR1110.X MEMS scanning mirror, compact RGB laser module and electrical interfaces.

The DM5220 laser projection evaluation kit revolutionizes MEMS and video control, to be a single chip solution, designed specifically for the demand of the automotive market.  That being said, all interfaces are aligned to state-of-the-art automotive requirements, including CAN communication and FPD-Link III data protocol.  The DM5220 all-digital controller produces unprecedented operational stability despite temperature changes and MEMS manufacturing tolerances.

The DM5220 is provisioned with a full Light Engine comprised of MAR1110.E, RGB lasers, and integral optics.

DM5220 KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS

  • Advanced MEMS digital controller based on dynamic MEMS model, for image stability control

  • Controlled using API and control software

  • Different image sources (pattern generator, image stored on memory and FPD Link III video streaming)

  • Real-time synchronization between MEMS and laser modulation compensating for temperature changes

  • Laser color and intensity control with diming resolution of 1:4000

  • Provision for external proximity sensor

  • Based on MAR5220 reference design, shortening OEM time to market

HOW THE LASER SCANNING PROJECTOR WORKS

Maradin uses 3 different lasers and combines them into a single RGB beam.  The laser beam is projected by a MEMS mirror (the MAR1110) onto a surface upon which we would like to have the image (i.e., ground, window, dashboard, etc.).

The MAR1110 MEMS mirror is a dual-axis scanning mirror designed for miniature laser projectors and laser steering applications. It is based on industry-leading MEMS technology with ultra-precise actuation timing to achieve sub-pixel location accuracy. The MEMS actuators combine both a fast electro-static actuator and a powerful electromagnetic actuator, which provide maximum field of view, lowest power, and greatest immunity to environmental changes, like temperature, aging, and others.

The MAR1110 MEMS is controlled by an all-digital driver and controller, the world’s first directly programmable, fully digital MEMS controller with capabilities far outreaching current analog control solutions.

In addition to the MEMS, the controller also manages the data and lasers for a full Laser Based Scanning (LBS) display solution. It has multiple image sources (pattern generator, memory stored images, and FPD-Link III video interface) that, according to a modified pixel timing algorithm, generate a full color projection. The sophisticated pixel timing algorithm enables to overcome optical distortions, to change the size of the field of view and image brightness.

MARADIN'S TECHNOLOGY INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING KEY ELEMENTS:
  • Fast electrostatic (ES) actuator with minimal power consumption. The ES actuator operates in the self-resonance frequency of the mirror and is ideal for high scan frequencies (tens of KHz).

  • Strong and accurate electromagnetic (EM) actuator. The EM actuator is ideal for point-to-point or slow scan patterns.

  • Capacitive sensors measure the mirror angular position with very high precision and fast response.

  • Sophisticated control circuitry and algorithms perform continuous, close control of the mirror motion, ensuring the utmost accuracy, repeatability and temperature stability.
